Every sports fan that witnessed this Montana legend, Wayne Estes, truly appreciated his soft touch from the corner of the court. And to realize that this gentle giant was a high school shot put champion. For his basketball was released with the flair of an artist.
Every school he played against had fans clapping for his excellence in play and as a true sportsman. He deserved his first team All American selection. And his coaches, teammates and family and friends are to be commended in sharing in his development as a true gentleman. He would have been a stand out in the NBA. Every university basketball team that played against him and his Utah State team whether winning or losing to Utah State was uplifted by the experience of the game. The State of Montana and Anaconda High School has every reason to be proud of Wayne Estes. All the teams of the WAC also claims Wayne as one of their own.
After winning a basketball game in Logan, Utah at Utah State University, while walking with his friends he was killed by walking into a live electrical wire that had fallen during a storm—his shorter in height friends escaped. We witnessed many games where he helped his team to the victories.
Our salute of gratitude.
